MASON COOPER

Mason Todd Cooper,17, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home.

Mason was born on November 2, 2006 in Matthews, NC to Todd and Gina Cooper. He was a Senior in the Class of 2025 at Union Grove Christian School in Lexington.

Mason loved the Lord, his family and friends. His passion was his faith, his basketball and his wakeboarding. He was a very quiet and humble young man.  His goals in life were to play college basketball and become a professional wakeboarder.  There is no doubt he would have succeeded in those goals.

Mason started wakeboarding at the age of 5.  His motto was to never give up.  He would continue working on new wakeboard tricks until he had accomplished them, no matter how many times he would fall - he never gave up.  He was a member of the Charlotte Ski Boats Dream Team and represented them in many local, regional, national and world competitions.  During the summer, he was either riding boat at Tuckertown or riding cable at Elevated Wake Park.

Mason began playing basketball in Kindergarten with the Upward Program at Back Creek Church in Charlotte.  He played school ball for Back Creek Christian Academy in Charlotte, Sheets Memorial Christian School in Lexington and most recently Union Grove Christian School in Lexington.  He was always working on his basketball skills whether in the gym or on his home court.  He would be shooting in the cold, hot, rain or snow.  He was a leader on and off the court and had an impact on his teammates and competitors.

Throughout his battle with cancer, he never complained.  He was more concerned with the hardship on his family.  Mason never questioned God’s plan. And we know that God has a spectacular plan for Mason.

He was preceded in death by his maternal Grandparents, Sonny and Nellie Whitener.

Left to cherish his memories are his parents, paternal grandparents Barry and Mary Cooper of Pittsboro, many aunts, uncles and cousins and his sweet love, Whitney Tonn.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23,2024 from 6-8pm at Journey Church of Lexington at 61 Biesecker Road.  A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Journey Church of Lexington conducted by Pastors Mark Rachels and Matt Leonard.  The celebration will also be live-streamed at the Journey Church of Lexington Facebook page.

The family would like to express their appreciation to United Grove Christian School, the Class of 2025 at Union Grove Christian School and Journey Church for their love and support; Dr. Neff and Dr. Supples and staff at Brenner’s Children Hospital for their care and guidance; and Dr. G and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forward in Faith building fund at Union Grove Christian School, 2295 Union Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27295.

A little can go along ways.  Familes going through this type of treatments have enough on them. Finances are one of those things that we all can help with.  If you feel led and can help, Evertthing is appreciated.

Due the generosity of a local business, SE Logowear in Winston Salem, all items purchased to show your support will have 100% of the proceeds go to the Cooper Family. Multiple ways to show support.

Our student body began covering him in prayer this week, and we are calling on all UGCS families to share this post to have as many people as possible pray DAILY for Mason, his mom, and dad. We would love to have over 10,000 commit to daily prayer for this family.
